Brother Lawrence Leander Doane
(died 29 October 1888 in Portland, Oregon)
Here is a brief biographical sketch of Brother Lawrence Leander Doane taken from the local newspaper reports of his death and funeral:
“Death of Lawrence Doane – The many friends of Lawrence Doane were pained yesterday to hear of his death in Portland that morning. The deceased was seriously ill with typhoid fever last summer, from which he had never fully recovered, and which was the primary cause of his early death. For several years Mr. Doane was teller of the Bank of B.C. in Westminster, where he was a general favorite. In 1888 he was promoted to the Portland office of the bank, and it was during his residence there that he contracted the fatal illness. The deceased was well known in this city, where his mother and sister reside. They have general sympathy in their bereavement.”

“Masonic Funeral – The funeral of the late L.L. Doane took place yesterday afternoon from Masonic Temple, under direction of Vancouver-Quadra lodge, A.F. & A.M., of which deceased was a member. The services at the Temple and the cemetery were impressively performed by W. M. Munro Miller, and at Christ Church Cathedral by Rev. Arthur Beanlands, the choir singing “When our Heads are Bowed with Woe.” The casket was covered with a variety of beautiful floral offerings, some of the prettiest having been sent from Portland, where deceased had many friends. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Northcote, Becker, Cox, Dodd, Wilson, Cowper, Stearski and Montgomery.”
